Full bodied version of the Alien Gray, though a variant of the three fingered kind. This was a fun mini-project for myself; trying to re-create an image based on alleged actual autopsy reports and first hand witnesses. For something surprisingly featureless, there was alot of subtle detail happening. Fun fun!

Posted in Concepts/Sketches, Critters, Gallery, Uncategorized on August 14, 2009 by Lu VazquezI know…I know. I need to update this blog more often. Still working on learning the process of making images digitally. As I get more confortable with what I’m doing, I’ll post more frequently. Meantime…figured I’d toss up the latest… an Alien Gray. I tried to do this concept as close to the ‘actual’ autopsy descriptions as I could. This one’s in Painter, roughly an hour to knock out. Feeling a little better about using painter as time goes on.

Posted in Concepts/Sketches, Critters, Gallery on July 31, 2009 by Lu VazquezBeen trying to keep busy with the painting, just cranking them out and hopefully pulling together a portfolio from the best of them. Photoshop seems to be the ‘go-to’ software…it just meets so many of my needs without too much headache. Still, I love alot of Painter’s features, and at this point I’m still experimenting with both. So…I’m posting 2 images, one done with photoshop, the other in Painter.
The first is a Night Elf Rogue from World of Warcraft, finally finished. The second is a quick concept sketch of a Man-Shark, done in Painter.
Whew
Posted in Critters, Gallery, Humanoids on July 24, 2009 by Lu VazquezSo ArtOrder had another interesting challenge…this one a full spread Book Cover. How could I refuse? I only had 2 weeks to do it though, and the concept/sketch stage just took waaay too long. So in the end, I got maybe about a week’s worth of actual paint time, sans life’s daily requirements. In the end, I’m ok with the results. I know I need to work on my backgrounds a bit more, and I really need to shoot reference for my figure work. Still…it was a fun challenge and I had a great time doing this one.
